Concurrent Disorders Definition

  • A concurrent disorder is used to express the co-occurrence of a mental, emotional or psychiatric problem with the misuse of alcohol or another psychoactive drug. It can also be referred as:  ”concurrent”, “co-occurring”, “co-existing” or “dual”, “dual diagnosis”
  • The comprehensive assessment of mental illness and substance use plays a critical role in determining appropriate levels of care
