The Inhaler Device Assessment Tool ([IDAT] Davies et al., 2006) is a checklist that nurses can use to ensure that the essential steps of inhaler device techniques are performed accurately and that the delivery of medication is optimized. The IDAT has been validated in children with asthma (Davies et al., 2006) and adults with COPD (Woodend et al., 2007).
