- The purpose of this Guideline is to present evidence-based recommendations that apply to the decisions and best practices of interprofessional teams working to assess and manage existing pressure injuries in people 18 years of age and above.
- While the expert panel recognizes that the treatment of mucosal membrane pressure injuries, cartilage pressure injuries, and medical device-related pressure injuries is an important clinical issue, coverage of these topics is outside the scope of this Guideline.
- Although most of the pressure injury assessment and management principles in this Guideline overlap with wound care best practices in specialized populations (e.g., pediatric, spinal cord injury, bariatric, critically ill, older adults, individuals in the operating room, and individuals in palliative care settings), they do not fully encompass the comprehensive care required by these sub-groups. Thus, these specialized populations are considered to be outside the scope of this Guideline.
