Exercise and Physical Training Interventions

Exercise, in general, is one potential intervention which comes up frequently in the literature and is supported by strong evidence. Different approaches to exercise and physical training interventions with varying degrees of effectiveness are described in the literature.

The following is an alphabetical list of exercise and physical training interventions from the guideline (for descriptions and information about potential benefits please see Appendix H in the guideline): 

  • Core strength training and Pilates exercise training
  • Exergaming (interactive gaming)
  • Falls prevention exercise programs
  • Foot and ankle exercises that strengthen and stretch the foot and ankle
  • Individualized exercise or physiotherapy (home-based)
  • Interactive cognitive–motor interventions (ICMI)
  • Muscle strengthening
  • Perturbation-based balance training
  • Stepping training
  • Tai chi (alternate names: taiji, tai chi chuan)
  • Yoga
